The Legacy of Harvey Milk at Missouri History Museum
The Legacy of Harvey Milk at Missouri History Museum
May 18, 2022 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The Legacy of Harvey Milk
PROGRAM SPONSOR: AARP ST. LOUIS
- LOCATION: Throughout the Museum Museum
- DATE: Wednesday, May 18, 2022
- TIME: 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM
In June 2022, Opera Theatre of St. Louis will present the world premiere of the New Performing Edition of Harvey Milk, an opera Stewart Wallace and Michael Korie that delves into the tumultuous era of the 1970s and traces one young man’s rise to lead a movement. Harvey Milk fought for the rights of the disenfranchised—and paid the ultimate price for his work. Tonight’s program will open with remarks from former White House aide, author, and political commentator Keith Boykin, who will also moderate a conversation featuring panelists who are members of both St. Louis’s LGBTQIA+ and political communities. Featuring State Representative Rasheen Aldridge Jr., former State Representative Jeanette Mott-Oxford, and St. Louis City Alderman Shane Cohn, the conversation will address Milk’s legacy and the significance of representation. The program will also include recorded footage of performances OTSL artists.
Prior to the keynote and panel discussion–from 5:30 to 6:30pm–join us for a happy hour featuring the panel display, Making History: Kansas City and the Rise of Gay Rights; resource tables from organizations like the St. Louis LGBT History Project; and other activities. Food and drink will be available for purchase from Salt + Smoke.
Presented with Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the St. Louis LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce.
